Exercises For Piles Treatment

Hemorrhoids (or piles) is a common clinical condition characterized by dilatation and inflammation of the ano-rectal veins as a result of constipation and constant straining or pregnancy (in women). While the piles treatment options primarily include a high fiber diet and increased intake of water, exercise treatment also seems to bear a degree of benefit, depending on the cause.

Kegel exercises consist of a series of exercises that contract and relax the pelvic muscle. In particular, they aid the strengthening of the pubo-coccygeus muscles.

Named after Dr Arnold Kegel, Kegel exercises have also been found to be beneficial in controlling flow of urine. They are also used in cases of premature ejaculation. There are a number of different exercise routines, usually performed twice a day. Some examples include

1. Contracting the muscle slowly and relaxing it after 5 to 10 seconds, and performing this repeatedly about 25 times

2. Contracting the muscle gradually, with intermittent pauses.

By doing so, the pubococcygeus muscle can be strengthened and this control of the ano-rectal area can be better achieved. In addition, Kegel exercises also help with piles treatment by improving the blood circulation to the anal region.

The advantage of performing Kegel exercises is that it can be performed safely without the risk of any side effects. Furthermore, it can be performed at any time of the day, even when driving.
